Changes to Member and Employer contributions from April 2024
Member contributions from April 2024
As per EPN 700, the lowest salary threshold from 1 April 2024 will increase in line with the September 2023 CPI increase. Member contribution rates are unchanged.
Employer contributions from April 2024 to March 2027
Every four years, the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) undertakes a valuation of the Civil Service Pension Scheme. The results determine the contributions that participating employers pay to the Scheme to cover the cost of providing scheme benefits to members, and the administration of the scheme. This is also known as the Accruing Superannuation Liability Charge (ASLC).
GAD has recommended that we move to a flat-rate structure. The average employer contribution rate (including the admin levy) will increase by 1.65% to 28.97% from April 2024 to March 2027. For more information, refer to EPN 698.
The change in contribution levels does not impact the amount of pension a member builds up in the Civil Service Pension Scheme.
Employers should work with their payroll providers to ensure the changes are implemented. For further information, read the contribution rates web page.
