Whatever stage of life or career you’re at, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s what you can expect from this series:

  • A leap into the dark: Gillian’s story – When Gillian retired on her 60th birthday, she went home and wept. After a career which took her all over the world, she felt cut adrift and needed a new purpose in life after work. Now, 20 years later, she’s a published author and has taken up a whole new line of work as a Registrar of Marriages. Gillian reflects on her career and shares advice for those going into retirement.

  • How does being a carer affect your pension? – Cilla Christmas, Valuation & Strategic Review Manager and Co-Chair of the Carer’s Network returns to the podcast to talk about what caring responsibilities can mean for your pension and retirement planning.

  • Retiring with 2015 Remedy (McCloud) – Are you unsure what the 2015 Remedy (McCloud) will mean for your retirement? Kevin Hughes, policy expert talks us through how it works and what to expect. We’re also joined by Christine, a retired Civil Servant who explains her experience of taking early retirement and making her choice as part of the process.

  • Riding for life: Patrick’s story – Having spent his career as a meteorologist working for the Met Office, Patrick has been spending his retirement years delivering life-saving services as a blood bike rider. He reflects on his career and shares his experiences in retirement, with some words of wisdom for those approaching retirement in the next few years.

  • Returning to the Civil Service: what does it mean for your pension? – Karen re-joined the Civil Service in 2014 after a break in service. She shares her experience, and Louise Kaplan, Exits expert helps us understand the technical aspects of what a break in service can mean for your pension.

  • In conversation with Civil Service employers – Employers play a vital role in supporting members and the scheme. Three representatives join us to talk about their views of the pension scheme, how it fits into the wider rewards package within the Civil Service, and the role that the Civil Service Pension plays in attraction and retention within their departments.

In between each episode release, we’ll also release a minisode full of bonus content. From what it means to be a dual member and a quick guide to partial retirement, to pensions for millennials and what to do when someone passes away – new content will be available every Thursday until Thursday 28 November 2024.

As with our previous seasons, we’re inviting feedback and suggestions, as well as any burning questions members want us to answer in future episodes.
