Detail
Season 2 of the Civil Service Pensions Podcast has arrived, with the first new episode available to stream or download from all major podcast platforms (including Spotify, Google and Apple Podcasts) from 31 August 2023.
Following on from the success of the first season (launched in September 2022), this new season brings 12 new episodes designed to help members become more informed and empowered when planning their financial future and retirement.
With expert guests and members of the scheme featured in every episode, hosts Rob Walker and Emily Eccles guide listeners through discussions about different aspects of the Civil Service Pension Scheme, bringing everything back to basics.
Whatever stage of life or career you’re at, there’s something for everyone.
Here’s what you can expect from our second series:
The cost-of-living: how does it affect your pension? – Kerrie Cureton-Williams (Deputy Director of Civil Service & Royal Mail Pensions) and Thomas Lynas (Money Advice Supervisor, the Charity for Civil Servants) discuss how the cost-of-living can affect your pension, and what members can do to protect their financial future.
Retirement on my terms: Mary’s story – Mary was a civil servant in the DVSA for 27 years and has a unique story to tell. Sharing her perspective on her career, her decision to take partial retirement and spending more time abroad, it’s clear she’s having the time of her life.
It’s never too late to start planning – We often say it’s never too early to start planning for your retirement… but what if you’re coming to it later in life? Liliana Gonzalez (Training Consultant) tells us why it’s never too late to start planning, and how members can make up for lost time.
You are what you do – Cilla Christmas (Valuation & Strategic Review Manager and Co-Chair of the Civil Service Carer’s Network) returns to the podcast to talk about the notion that our job can be a defining part of our identity, and how we can avoid an identity crisis when we leave work behind for good.
Leaving work behind for your health: Gerald’s Story – After a long career in HMRC, Gerald’s retirement plans were turned upside down when a health issue brought his career to an early end. He tells us about his experience of leaving work behind for the sake of his health and how he’s taken up a whole new line of work in retirement.
What are our members saying about pensions? – Sarj Wheelwright (Engagement Manager for Civil Service & Royal Mail Pensions) returns for our final full-length episode. We hear directly from members at Civil Service Live about their perspectives on pensions, the cost of living and where retirement sits in their financial priorities right now.
In between each of the above episodes, we’ll also release a minisode of bonus content. From a quick guide to Annual Benefit Statements and the six things you can do to kick-start your retirement planning, to 2015 Remedy (McCloud), pension fraud and sneak previews of our retirement episodes - there’ll be new content released every week, from Thursday 31 August until Thursday 16 November 2023.
As with our first season, we’re inviting feedback and suggestions, as well as any burning questions members want us to answer in future episodes.
