We want members to feel informed and empowered when it comes to planning their financial future and retirement, but we know pensions can sometimes feel complicated and overwhelming.

That’s where this podcast series comes in. With expert guests and members of the scheme featured in every episode, hosts Rob Walker and Emily Eccles from MyCSP guide listeners through discussions about different aspects of the Civil Service Pension Scheme, bringing everything back to basics.

Whatever stage of life or career you’re at, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s what you can expect from our first series:

  • Pensions 101 –  what's so good about the Civil Service pension?
No question is too small as we kick off the series with Dominic Arthur (Director of Pensions and Government Recruitment, Cabinet Office) and Duncan Watson (Chief Executive, MyCSP) talking us through the basics. We also explore what makes this scheme one of the best in the UK public sector.

  • Living your best life in retirement - how Linda's post-work years are among her best yet
Linda was a civil servant in HM Revenue & Customs for 45 years and has a unique story to tell. Sharing her perspective on her career, her experiences in retirement and how active members can prepare for this major life change, it’s clear her retirement years are proving to be the best ones yet.

  • The Gender Pension Gapcould women be facing an unbalanced future?
Cilla Christmas (Valuation and Strategic Review Manager in the Cabinet Office and Co-Chair of the Civil Service Carer’s Network) and Sarj Wheelwright (Stakeholder & Engagement Manager for Civil Service and Royal Mail Pensions) join us to discuss why half the UK population could be facing an unequal future in retirement. We explore facts, figures, research and the social and economic factors that underpin the Gender Pension Gap.

  • Why should you care about your pension in your 30s?
James, a civil servant at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) joins Cathryn Murray (Training & Engagement Manager at from MyCSP) and our hosts to discuss why it’s never too early to start thinking about and planning for your financial future.

  • Leaving the Civil Service or opting out of your pension - what does it mean for your future?
This episode dives into what happens when you leave the Civil Service or opt out of the scheme. Experts from MyCSP and the Cabinet Office talk us through how it all works, and why it’s so important for members to stay in the scheme.

  • Kids, marriage, divorce and more - how key life events affect your pension
Whether you’re in line for a promotion, thinking of taking a career break, approaching maternity, paternity, parental or carer’s leave or if you become too ill to work, our guests explain how these events could impact your retirement planning.

We’re also inviting feedback and suggestions, as well as any burning questions members want us to answer in future episodes.

The first two episodes are available from 8 September 2022 on all major podcast platforms. Episodes three to six will released every other Thursday from 22 September.
